Healing Touch (HT) Career College in Jackson, Mississippi is a one-year-old addition to the Massage Therapy community located in Jackson, MS. This is Ibrahim Isidebe’s second Massage Therapy school; his initial campus is in Hattiesburg, MS, where I first taught, early on in my career, and to which I still enjoy returning. HT has been very successful and is committed to teaching the basics to massage therapists to ensure they posses the necessary skills to thrive in our profession.
This weekend I was surrounded by many familiar faces as well as some new ones. I truly enjoyed the teaching-learning dynamic engendered by this group of hands-on practitioners as I taught the seminar on SMT healing techniques. I observed the occurrence of several ‘a-ha’ moments followed by great bodywork, which itself resulted in significant positive myofascial postural changes throughout this weekend. These types of experiences are exceptionally rewarding for all involved, including the teacher! We love seeing the direct apprehension of healing knowledge in experiential practice followed simultaneously by full realization of healing impact by the student – it is a transformative situation where the knowledge has become actualized and the teacher understands that he or she has truly bridged the gap of knowledge transmission. It can happen in many ways, but this is perhaps the highest.
I teach in Jackson several times each year, and always look forward to come back. Especially since there is now a Whole Foods Grocery five minutes from the school! Additionally, I am teaching level 1, 2, and 3 in Jackson this fall for those who are interested in mastering the entire SMT 10 series. These are the dates for the upcoming autumn workshops:
- Level 1, September 5, 6, and 7
- Level 2, October October 17, 18, and 19
- Level 3, November 14, 15, and 16
These workshops feature 25 hours in 3 days and teach SMT sessions 1-7. Looking forward to more healing workshops and hope to see you in Jackson in the fall of 2014.
